Land Rover Range Rover 2022: the pinnacle of evolution

It's been more than 50 years since Land Rover decided to combine the Defender's off-road performance with unrivaled luxury to create the Range Rover. The new Range Rover SUV matches the original product description. It is designed to carry 7 people in unrivaled comfort over snow, rivers, mud and crowded cities.

Other manufacturers have tried to reproduce this formula, but so far no one has succeeded. BMW built the X7, Jeep the Grand Cherokee and Mercedes-Benz the GLS. While all three are great cars in their own right, they don't have the x-factor that the Range Rover has. Historically, it has always been a big rival to the BMW 7 Series and Mercedes-Benz S-Class, despite different body styles.

“Range Rover is a design icon and needs to move forward in all areas, including design, but we really wanted to focus on reductionism and make modern luxury more understated. We had many design concepts - some more evolving than this one. However, we must develop the appearance of the SUV, make it more modern. without going too radical. We didn't want to alienate loyal customers,” says Massimo Frasella, Design Director at Jaguar Land Rover.

New 2022 Range Rover: engines, power and performance

Two engine options are available - a mild hybrid inline-six and a supercharged petrol V8. Turbocharged V6 diesel and plug-in hybrid models were discontinued in 2022.

The 2022 engine lineup starts with an entry-level inline-six gasoline engine with mild hybrid technology. In a standard Range Rover, it develops 355 hp. and 365 Nm of torque. Power increases to 395 hp. and 395 lb-ft at SWB Westminster. But nothing beats a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 engine. It produces 518 hp. and 461 lb-ft in the SWB Westminster and Autobiography models and a staggering 557 hp. and 516 lb-ft in SWB Autobiography Dynamic and LWB SVAutobiography models.

The engines do a wonderful job, especially the 5.0-liter V8. It's not as lively and noisy as the Velar or Range Rover Sport SVR, but here it has a different job. With over 500 horsepower, this engine just keeps moving past where the driver feels comfortable.

The P360 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.6 seconds, while the P400 takes 5.9 seconds. According to Land Rover, the 518-horsepower supercharged 5-litre V8 engine will propel this luxury car to 100 km/h in just 5.1 seconds. V8 engine with 557 hp should be able to accelerate in less than five seconds, despite Land Rover's claim of 5.1 seconds.

All engines are mated to all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission that shifts gears superbly. So smoothly, as if this SUV does not have a gearbox at all. The towing capacity of all models is the same and is 3500 kg.
